Tribute to Alan

On 28 March 2026, our club lost not only its founder but also a mentor, teacher, flying companion, and dear friend. I lost my stepdad, and many of us lost someone who had played a significant role in our lives both on and off the flying field.

Alan's battle with cancer was a long and difficult one. Despite the challenges he faced, he continued to show the determination, strength, and quiet courage that so many of us admired. Sadly, on 28 March 2026, Alan passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire our club and the model aviation community for many years to come.

Alan was one of those rare people who could bring others together through a shared passion. As the founder of our club, he laid the foundations for what we enjoy today. Through his hard work, dedication, and vision, he helped create not just a flying field, but a welcoming community where friendships were formed, skills were shared, and countless memories were made.

His love for aviation and aeromodelling was evident in everything he did. Whether he was building a new model, helping someone tune an engine, teaching a new pilot, or simply sharing stories at the field, Alan always made time for others. He was generous with his knowledge and encouragement, and many pilots who fly today owe part of their success and confidence to his guidance and support.

For me personally, Alan was much more than a club founder. He was a mentor, a teacher, a flying buddy, and family. Some of my earliest and most treasured memories in model aviation were shared with him. He helped foster my love of flying and encouraged me to develop my skills, always offering advice, support, and friendship along the way.

Alan believed that model aviation was about more than aircraft. It was about people. He understood the importance of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and helping others enjoy the hobby. Those values helped shape the culture of our club and continue to influence us today.

The true measure of a person's life is not simply what they achieve, but the impact they have on others. By that measure, Alan's contribution was extraordinary. The club he founded, the friendships he built, the knowledge he shared, and the people he inspired are all part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

Although the skies will seem a little emptier without him, every successful flight, every new pilot welcomed into the hobby, and every gathering of club members will serve as a reminder of what Alan helped create.

Alan will be remembered with great respect, affection, and gratitude. His influence on our club and our lives will never be forgotten.
