East Coast RC Flyers News March 2018

Every Tasmanian RC model club aspires to have at least one special day on their events calendar. For the East Coast RC Flyers, this occasion is the Australia Day Fly-In.
This year was not different. The club invited the public, their members and family, and flyers of other clubs to attend the function. More than 40 participants enjoyed great flying action and a delicious BBQ. The good mood was helped by glorious weather.
Such an occasion is a good time to honour members’ achievements. This year, the club president, Alan Butler, honoured Rodney Hume with the issue of the silver wing. The Model Aeronautical Association of Australia, MAAA in short, devised a flying skill structure of bronze, silver and gold. Within a short time, Rodney went from absolute beginner to silver wing model pilot.
The last formality of the day was a brief speech by Michael 
Rutledge, the president of the Association’s Tasmanian branch (TMAA). He acknowledged the progress the club made in the last few years.
As usual, the display of static and flying models helped to make the day memorable for members and onlookers alike. If you aren’t aware, the club’s website has a Gallery section with the latest pictures of events and flying days.

Sunday mornings is the best time to find someone at the field, weather permitting. If this hobby interests you and you haven’t flown before, you don’t need to purchase anything. The club has trainer planes, equipment, and the service of a qualified model flying instructor.
