An Exciting & Fun Hobby

Flying radio controlled (RC) models is an exciting hobby and offers challenges and rewards to the young and the old.

RC flying isn’t limited to the “standard” motorized aeroplane. A wide variety of models and styles are available: trainers, gliders, aerobatic pattern models, 3D, pylon racers, jets, helicopters.

Our main flying field is near St Helens – see our location map below.

Our Latest Adventures

Yak 55 EPP

HobbyKing’s Yak 55 EPP profile is my favourite 3D plane. It is robust and does what I want it to do. However, there is still a lot of practicing required to reach a satisfactory 3D

Gliding is a passion

I’m still harping on this subject and, perhaps, I can ignite a bit of gliding passion in someone. Both of us, Angelika and Manfred, were glider pilots once. This is were our passion started –

Paul’s Model Railway

When flying the Bixler is getting too exciting, Paul relaxes by driving his model railway. He has done a great job displaying a working coal mine – in part, based on the Fingal mine.

How it all began

A long time ago in a place far away - in Scamander

In September 2013, a bunch of model flyer enthusiasts met on a make-shift flying field in Scamander. Shortly afterwards, the East Coast RC Flyers club was born.

Initially, the club was jokingly known as the Bixler Club. But, when the membership and the model sizes grew, an alternative site had to be found. It was an excellent find. For almost four years, the club’s home is at Reid’s Rd, St Helens https://eastcoastrcflyers.org.au/index.php/flying-field/

Special thanks to Alvin Reid, the land owner, for providing the excellent flying field and club house.

Join Us

The rise of the Asian economy has dramatically lowered the prices of model aircraft, electronics, and mechanical parts. Not too long ago, we had to spend a small fortune on our hobby, which deterred many potential newcomers.

Today, around $300 can buy you a good trainer and all the necessary equipment.

If you wish to join our club, or you want to have a look and visit us during our flying days, feel free to Contact Us.
